Welcome back friends!
This past week was a little hectic. Getting ready for school, moving on from my job and prepping bags for my first real event with EME's Creations.
I just wanted to give you a little info on how things went at the Care Free Senior Living Apartments Street Fair for us this past weekend.
First, I spent all week up late at night and waking early in the morning in order to get at least 50 bags ready for sale. Friday I woke up at 6:00 AM and the next time my head hit the pillow was 33 hours later at 3:00 PM on Saturday. YIKES! My first all nighter of my life!
Back to the fair. In my first hour I sold zero bags. I tell you, I was ready to lower all my prices to get 1 bag sold. It was not easy to wait for our first purchase. Around 1 and 1/2 hours in we sold our first bag! Woohoo! About an hour later, my husband sold one as well. Towards the end of the day we were beginning to be content with just two bags. We were resigning ourselves to the "well, we now have a big inventory from my hard work this week, hopefully we can sell some online and maybe it's time to set up Etsy." Just as we were adjusting to our new definition of success for the day a customer arrived...
A sweet little lady asked, "you sew all of these yourself, honey? Oh this is so cute!"
"Yes," my husband and I answered in unison.
she began to mumble a little. We weren't sure if she was speaking to us or to herself...
"this one...and this one...this one is really nice. OH are these Halloween bags?"
"yes, they are for trick or treat and they come with a little flashlight too," I responded, not sure if she was browsing or buying the entire lot. At this point she had about four bags in what seemed to be her "i want this" pile that she held close to her chest. Again, I was trying to fathom what was going on (in my super-cautiously-optimistic-but-too-tired-to-control-my-facial-expressions kinda way).
This is when my husband stepped in. He grabbed a business card and asked our patron's name. He turned the card around to show her, calling her by name,
"(inaudible name to protect the innocent) did you know that you get $10 off your 6th bag?"
"Oh yeah? How many do I have?...Oh I gotta have this one too."
It went on more or less like this for 5 more minutes. In the end (inaudible name to protect the innocent) bought 8 bags and we gave her one for being our most excellent customer ever. She was happy and we were happy. Her sales bag we gave her was packed with 4 or 5 of our tiara's for her grandchildren and a couple extra business cards (fingers crossed).
We were about a half hour away from finishing our event and we had sold almost a quarter of our inventory! Awesome! Needless to say, we basked in the glory and satisfaction that can only come from hard work paying off and the joy that comes from seeing our entrepreneurial adventure be successful.
The vendors that we were sharing space with were very nice as well, and we enjoyed ourselves. My husband ran to the grocery store and brought milk for breakfast with my favorite packaged cinnamon rolls. YUMMY!
All in all it was a great day. We will keep you posted on the etsy.com account and also any future events.
